Assessments for EHCPs

If the Local Authority has agreed to assess your child for an EHC but there is a long wait for them to see a LA EP, I may be able to help.

Hi, I’m Nicky, an independent Educational Psychologist based in Cambridge with more than a decade of experience helping children, families, and schools navigate the challenges that make school feel hard.

My professional background includes:

  • Senior Educational Psychologist within a Local Authority.
  • Extensive experience writing Educational Psychology advice for EHC Needs Assessments.
  • Developing and delivering ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) training, both within a Local Authority and independently. ELSAs help children manage emotions, boost confidence, understand friendships, and cope with bereavement and loss.
  • Running MeLSA (Motivating Learning Support Assistant) training, building school staff capacity to support children who have learning difficulties.
  • Delivering training for parents, schools, Multi-Academy Trusts and organisations on how to recognise and respond to children’s anxiety.
  • Leading a multi-professional working group to create Local Authority guidance for schools and families on supporting children with school-based anxiety.

I combine psychological theory, neurodiversity-affirming practice, and practical school experience so you get support that is both compassionate and effective.

HOW YOU CAN WORK WITH ME

In-Depth Assessment

Get clarity on what is really going on.

A full educational psychology assessment will leave you with a holistic understanding of your child's strengths and needs, outcomes for your child to work towards in school and recommendations about the kind of support they will need. These can be especially helpful if you want to apply for an EHC needs assessment or you want to commission a report to submit as educational psychology advice for an EHC assessment that has already been agreed by the Local Authority - or if you just need detailed recommendations for school.

A full educational psychology assessment typically involves me talking to you and school staff (when possible), observing your child in school, talking to your child to gain their views and undertaking relevant assessments.

A few times a year I run the School Anxiety Support (SAS) Programme, a step-by-step programme for parents of children with school anxiety to stop feeling stuck and create a clear plan with school.

Enrolment is currently closed while I support the current group of families. The next cohort is planned for September / October 2026. You can join the waitlist to be first to hear when the next cohort opens and get full details.
