Who Is This For?

Does any of the following sound familiar? Then you won't want to miss this FREE training.

"My child is worried about school but I'm not sure why?"

You've tried asking them, but they find it difficult to explain what's going on. You suspect it might be something to do with autism, ADHD or difficulties with learning but you're not clear how this all fits together.

"School tells me they're fine when they're in - but at home my child is falling apart."

Maybe your child finds it hard to explain what’s really going on and they mask how they feel at school - but it all spills out at home. You know something's wrong but school staff don't see it. The result? You feel frustrated and unheard and your child isn't getting the support they need.

"I'm pretty sure I know what my child is worried about, but I'm not sure what to do about it."

There’s a lot of conflicting advice online, and it can be hard to know what actually applies to your child. And you're left unclear about what  support you could ask the school to provide.

"Everyone's focusing on getting them into school, but this doesn't seem to make things any better."

And maybe it seems to be making things worse!  Encouraging your child to "face their fears" doesn't seem to reduce their worry - but you're not sure what else to do apart from take them out of school.

"My child has a support plan but it doesn't seem to be working."

Goals seem unachievable and irrelevant. Maybe the focus is on getting your child back into school without addressing any of the other issues that underly your child's worries.  Nothing seems to make a difference and things are feeling stuck.

You don't need to force your child into school to make progress. You need understanding and a plan. This masterclass will give you that starting point.

WHAT AGE RANGE ARE YOU GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT?

This talk is most relevant for children aged between 7 and 16 but if your child is older or younger than this, lots will still be useful.

MY CHILD HAS AUTISM AND / OR ADHD. IS THIS MASTERCLASS STILL RELEVANT?

Absolutely!  Research has shown that neurodiversity plays a really important role in school anxiety and many children only get diagnosed after they start to struggle at school.

________________________________________________________________________________

I'M PRETTY SURE MY CHILD ISN'T NEURODIVERSE. WILL I LEARN ANYTHING FROM COMING ALONG?

Yes you will! Children can be worried about school for many and varied reasons - not just because they are neurodiverse. This masterclass will give you a framework to help understand what might be going on and how to support your child, whatever underlies their anxiety.

MY CHILD ISN'T ATTENDING SCHOOL AT THE MOMENT AND I CAN'T SEE THEM GOING BACK IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. IS IT WORTH ME ATTENDING?

Even if your child isn't able to go to school at the moment, it can still be helpful to understand why school felt so difficult, as many of those challenges may show up in other areas of life too. Creating a plan to gently support your child to build skills—such as recognising their strengths, understanding their sensory needs, or developing emotional regulation skills—can still make a meaningful difference, wherever they are.

A NOTE FROM...

NICKY ODGERS

Hi, I’m Nicky. I’m an independent Educational Psychologist based in Cambridge (UK) and the founder of School Anxiety Support.

I have many years of experience helping children who struggle with school—working out why things feel hard and what support is needed. I previously worked as a Senior Educational Psychologist in a Local Authority, where I led a multi-professional group developing guidance on supporting school anxiety. I’ve developed and delivered ELSA training to help school staff support children with emotional regulation and wellbeing, and I've provided training for parents, schools and organisations on responding to anxiety in children. I also carry out in-depth assessments for children who are struggling at school, many of whom are autistic or have ADHD.

In this webinar, I’ll draw on this experience to give you clear, practical, evidence-informed guidance you can use with your child.
